The Porc d’Or Awards, promoted by IRTA (Institut de Recerca i Tecnologia Agroalimentàries) through BDporc (Spanish Swine Reference Databank), have established themselves as the most prestigious awards in the Spanish pork sector.
Since their inception in 1994, these awards have recognized the country’s best pig farms based on technical data, productivity, animal welfare, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
More than just a competition, the Porc d’Or awards are a symbol of quality, innovation, and sustainability, and a meeting point where farmers, technicians, veterinarians, and collaborating companies share knowledge and experiences that drive the sector forward as a whole.
The 32nd Porc d’Or Awards
The 32nd edition of the Porc d’Or Awards was held in Lleida last October, bringing together more than 900 professionals from across the entire pork value chain: producers, researchers, veterinary companies, equipment manufacturers such as Megablok, and agri-food entities.
The event highlighted the strength of a sector that continues moving toward a more sustainable, highly technical, and competitive model.
During the gala, 43 statuettes were awarded to the farms with the best technical and management results, distributed across White Pig and Iberian categories. Galicia, Aragon, Castile and León, and Catalonia stood out among the most awarded regions, reflecting the diversity and dynamism of Spanish pork production.
Recognizing continuous improvement and sustainability
The Porc d’Or awards are based on a rigorous objective evaluation system that analyzes data from farms integrated into BDporc. This scientific approach ensures the transparency and credibility of the results. The criteria evaluate numerical productivity, as well as respect for animal health and welfare, biosecurity, environmental management, and the application of innovative technologies.
In this edition, one of the highlights was the presentation of the 2025 Porc d’Or One Health Award, sponsored by Ceva Animal Health, to the Laguarres Agropecuaria farm in Isábena. This recognition highlights the close collaboration between farmers and veterinarians in favor of healthier and more sustainable livestock farming, in line with the global “One Health” approach.
