Innovation in industrial environments leading toward Industry 4.0 was the central theme of the roundtable discussion held for the innovation special feature by the digital media outlet Hoy Aragón. The conversation featured our general manager, Enrique Villaverde, alongside Sergio Fernández, product manager at Sphere Spain.

To provide context, Industry 4.0—also known as the Fourth Revolution—refers to the digital transformation of the sector, driven by the integration of intelligent technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), Big Data, and robotics. This revolution seeks to achieve smart factories and production systems that enable real-time decision-making, greater efficiency, flexibility, and agility in processes.

Applications in Industry 4.0

In the words of Enrique Villaverde, Industry 4.0 is applied at Megablok both in data collection and in the immediate processing and exploitation of that data, whether in manufacturing or extrapolated to smart locker solutions—with, for example, chatbots that work to ensure our clients (and our clients’ clients) are assisted at all times, with a 24-hour service and in any language.

Through its most technological line, Community Locker, Megablok has focused its strategy on the digitalization of its products (such as the aforementioned smart lockers), implemented in various parts of the country. These solutions include not only furniture or hardware, but also software, payment gateways, and the ability to obtain real-time usage data, which truly adds value to the product and differentiates it from other options on the market. Thus, the software implemented for, say, a luggage storage facility, a company wanting a smart parcel service for its employees, or intelligent access and tool control and management for a business, is not all the same.

During this event, our CEO Enrique Villaverde also explained how the company designs its products with a focus on reducing carbon footprint and optimizing processes, and how the entire Industry 4.0 chain extends from the factory to the end user. Sustainability is another fundamental pillar of the company’s strategy, and nothing is done without taking this aspect into account.

Looking ahead to the future Industry 5.0, both Sphere Spain and our company outlined a scenario more centered on people, sustainability, and resilience in the face of changing geopolitical environments, highlighting the importance of offering consumers an easy-to-use product with high customizability.
